Bassie: Brainy, Beautiful and Blossoming

One of the greatest love stories of all time is Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Good Girl Global wishes to profile one half of South Africa’s greatest romances; Romeo and Julia. She is better known by her first name Basetsana (her second name is Julia). She is happily married to he who was the most eligible bachelor of the 1990’s, Romeo Kumalo and today she has a beautiful family, a blossoming career and a devoted following of girls who are inspired by her achievements. .


She has it all. A beautiful family, an enviable career and genuine beauty. Just peruse through her Instagram, if she is not living it up in Louis Vuitton ahe is looking gorgeous in Gavin Rajah and her boys pimping in Polo cardigans. After that glance over her linkedin profile, her resume also reflects all that is good. Basetsana is the Chairwoman of the Business Women’s Association, she is also the owner of one of the most successful production companies in South Africa and holds a total of eleven Directorships.


Just last week she played a huge role in launching the Love Life Leadership Academy. Love Life is South Africa’s largest youth focuses HIV prevention not for profit organization. The new academy aims at training and up skilling young people and allowing them to access opportunities to education, employment and entrepreneurship.


She has certainly come a long way since she was crowned Miss South Africa in 1994 beating a handful of hopefuls. She represented South Africa is the Miss World pagent and was crowned first princess to Indian beauty and superstar Aishwaryia Rai. Following her reigns, she formed Tswelopele productions a television production company that produces popular South African TV shows; Top Billing, Pasella and Ses’khona. When Tswelopele productions listed on the JSE Securities Exchanged SA she became one of the youngest black women directors to be part of the mainstream of the South African economy.


It is not surprising why Good Girl Global wished to honour this brainy beauty who’s Cinderella Rags to Riches story can serve as an inspiration to women all over the world. Basetsana the daughter of a bus driver and a school teacher used to make sandwiches to sell at soccer matches to alleviate her families financial struggles. She continues to prove why she has been named as one of South Africa’s greatest South Africana as this former beauty pagent winner also wears a crown of compassion; The Romeo & Basetsana Kumalo Family Foundation was formed by Basetsana and her husband to assist children orphaned by AIDS and other related diseases. In addition, she serves as a spokesman for the United Nations Children’s Fund which hopes to eradicate global neonatal and maternal tetanus.


Bassie serves as a reminder to young girls that irrespective of your 'small' background it is possible to achieve 'Big Things' We at Good Girl Global admire the grace the carries around as she lives the African Dream. She is demure, she is well groomed and she is is a image icon to many women around the world.
